Hi everyone! This is Dione from After the Rain Arts Therapy online. I wanted to share with you a book about me. I offered it as a one-day course at one stage and had a few people come and it was so fun! And I made this book. Now it’s been in a box for a few years so I have to hold the pieces on but that’s the cover.

Giving an old book a new life

So I made it out of an old book that I bought at a secondhand shop and you can see I cut/poked holes in it and put those spiral thingies in. One of the things I really liked about it is that each page is a different shape.  And they’re made out of different things. Different things like junk mail that came in the mail, and other different pieces. Like the last one is a ripped page from a box.

Each page talks about something important to me

And I wrote things about me in it.  The purpose is to capture a snapshot of who I am and what I know about myself – clarifying who I am. Who I am in that time and that moment.  Thinking about, talking about and expressing what we like and don’t like, think and do, helps us to get clear on who we are. It’s a powerful tool.

So what pages are in this book? I’ve got something about private practice. About my kids leaving home. About my studio – my art studio that I had at the time. How I feel about TV. One of my favourite life lessons: Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I’ve got a page about jealousy, that I was having a problem with it at the time. We won’t talk about that right now. Being single. Travel, travel is always part of who I am. Being creative. I don’t know what that last one was about.

What would you put in a book about you?

So one of the things you might do to know yourself better, is to make a little book about yourself, using whatever creative means you enjoy. I’ve got another book that’s purely scrapbooking. and I’m gonna make a different video of it and show you soon. This one, this altered book of sorts, it’s not what some people would call an altered book, but for me it is. This is one of the ways. So how about you? How might you make a book about yourself? What pops into your head? I bet you have some ideas that just pop in your head right then. Do it! What are you waiting for?

Don’t let anything stop you! Do it!
